Scott calls for more of the same

PROUD Glebe Rangers manager Gareth Scott watched his side grind out a fantastic point away to Loughgall on Saturday - then immediately threw down the gauntlet to his players to produce the goods on the pitch again this weekend.

Glebe weren't given a hope against the title challengers but shocked the home side by roaring into a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the match.

Indeed they could have been well on their way to all three points had the usually clinical Trevor Parkhill not struck an upright from the penalty spot.

"I would say it was a fair result," Scott told Times Sport.

"They put us under some pressure in the second half and other teams may have crumbled under that pressure.

"But it is testament to our side how resolute we were and didn't crumble.

"We showed we can battle and compete under pressure.

"Our work-rate and energy couldn't be faulted - from one to 14 as well as the coaching staff and support.

"Everyone played their heart out to get a fantastic point."

The visitors benefited from some poor defending with Richard Lynch and Trevor Parkhill grabbing the goals for Rangers.

Loughgall were given a lifeline as Andy Smith's free-kick was deflected off William Wharry and in.

They equalised with seven minutes remaining when Davy Hawthorne coolly slotted home.

Saturday's impressive draw followed a narrow defeat at Limavady the previous weekend.

Scott has called on his players to maintain their levels of performance against seventh placed Larne at the Riada Stadium on Saturday.

"We went there (to Loughgall) expecting to put in a performance and we did that," he said.

"It is all about Larne now and we have to produce the same again.

"In the past two games we have done well against two of the top teams in this league away from home.

"We now want to show the people of Ballymoney what we can do.

"We have now set a standard and are striving to progress.

"We will match any side in terms of energy, work-rate and organisation."

Scott said the effort being put in on the training ground was paying dividends on the pitch.

"The guys are playing in a very challenging league," he said.

"We are up against teams who are traditionally stronger and financially stronger than ourselves but in terms of battling we can match anyone."

Scott also paid tribute to those behind the scenes in recent weeks.

"I pay tribute to them all," he said.

"Peter Tweed has decided to stay and I am delighted.

"He has a lot of experience and know-how and has been invaluable to me.

"Gareth Moody does a difficult job and his advice and opinions have also been absolutely invaluable.

"I thought when I came in I was the most enthusiastic person here but Alister Stevenson puts me into the silver medal position in those stakes."
