Scott takes positives from Glebe defeat

GLEBE Rangers boss Gareth Scott was not too despondent following their first defeat of the season to Carrick Rangers on Saturday.

Glebe lost 3-1 to the hosts at Taylors Avenue but Scott felt the scoreline flattered Carrick.

He told Times Sport: "I'm disappointed with the result but not disappointed with the performance.

"Carrick are considered dark horses for the title this year and I can see why.

"They started very strong a scored deserved an early goal.

"The infamous Glebe resilience which has become a stable part of our success kicked in and we finished the half in the ascendancy after some fine football and a big penalty shout when Chris Patterson was brought down when through on goal.

"The second half saw our dominance continue with great saves from the Carrick keeper from Elder and Parkhill.

"We equalised after a fantastic combination between Owen Moody and Trevor Parkhill resulting in an excellent goal from Moody.

"With five minutes to go a mis-hit Carrick cross deceived the ever impervious Brian Kane.

"We went all out for equaliser and got caught again deep in injury time.

"I was really happy with many passages of our play and the performances of McLay, Sheppard, Patterson and Moody were of particular merit.

"Elder has bounced back from a rather harsh 11th hour exclusion from junior international squad, but the wee man is typical of what Glebe means to people involved,no self pity just ready for the next challenge.

"Also the character shown by Trevor Parkhill after the traumatic week he had just underlines the character of the man.

"He is a giant among players and a credit to himself and his family.

"We can take loads of positives from what has been a disappointing week but we are ready to bounce back in the Steel and Sons Cup away to Knockbreda next week."

* The bus to the Knockbreda match leaves the Manor at 11.30am on Saturday.
