Seapark and Barn Runners compete at Carlingford race

Barn Runners took part in the annual Albertville 5-mile race at the weekend, organised by Albertville Harriers.

Neil Porter completed the course in 32.17 minutes, followed by Barry Wheelwright with 34.58and Andrew Stevenson with 36.06.

Julie Wilson and Robert Murray from Barn Runners also took part in the Carlingford Half Marathon in Dundalk, with Julie completing the course in 1 hour 57 minutes and Robert finishing in 1 hour 47 minutes.

Two Seapark athletes, Tony Barclay and Vivien Davidson, competed in The Carlingford Half Marathon on Saturday.

Tony, who is a blind runner, continues his preparations along with his guide Vivien, for the forthcoming Derry Marathon at the end of May. Both runners finished the race in 2hrs 20.22

Also at the weekend, Seapark athlete Trevor Lamb competed in the Addiction NI 10K race at Ormeau Park. Trevor finished with a personal best time of 54.11.

Joining him in this race, also from Seapark AC, were Andy Smyth 54.50, Sarah Rea 1.04.45 and Carrie Brown 1.04.45

East Coast AC

East Coast Athletic Club’s Stephen Kennedy joined almost 50 hardy mountain runners in poor conditions as they welcomed the start of the 2015 Northern Ireland Mountain Running Association season on Saturday.

It kicked off with the Slieve Gullion Mountain Race in County Armagh and the experienced Kennedy climbed well and was rewarded for his efforts with a Male Vet 45 win when he crossed the line in 35:53 to secure seventh place overall.

At the Albertville 5-mile, East Coast AC club captain, Chris Davis clocked 32:58 for the distance, taking 70th place. Brian Maltman took 110th (37:52) while Ruth Kelly claimed 47th place in the ladies’ category when she crossed the line in 43:09.

At the Larne parkrun, Andy Guy claimed second in 18:35, followed by Paul Clements in 22:46 (8th place).

James Robinson ran well to take 10th spot in 23:15, before Hannah Clements secured a new 5k personal best of 25:40 (second place in the ladies’ category).
