SEARCH FOR TOP STRIKERS

GLENAVON boss Marty Quinn is searching for top strikers to boost his squad in the summer transfer window.

The title-winning boss is keen to add to his squad come the close season and wants to bolster his forward line with the club’s strikers contributing just 15 goals in 35 league games, not counting Trevor Molloy who has spent most of his time on the wing.

However, already one target has been ruled out with Dungannon striker Timmy Adamson signing a new contract at Stangmore Park.

“My priority is to bring a couple of strikers in this summer and a bit of quality,” told Quinn.

“That won’t be Timmy Adamson because he has signed a new contract at Dungannon. It would have been nice (to get him in) but we have a few other irons in the fire. We have a couple of other people to speak to with a bit of experience and hopefully we can get something sorted over the next few weeks.”

Quinn is also keen to lower the number of players in his large first-team squad whilst bringing in only a few new faces and calling on the club’s young reserve players more often next term.

“There might be six, seven or eight players going out the door and if I can get three in I’ll be well pleased,” he said.

“We’re like every club at the moment; we have to make our cuts. There will be a lot of players coming and going but I don’t think that we need an awful lot. My intentions are to reduce the first team squad to about 18 players and at the moment I have 23, which is far too many. The plan will be to start introducing younger lads now who are good enough to make the breakthrough and start bringing them into the first-team squad more often.”

Meanwhile, transfer listed Gary Liggett and Mark Turkington have received some interest from other clubs ahead of the summer window.

“We have the same four players on the transfer list - Gary Liggett, Tuda Murphy, Mark Turkington and Adrian Harper who has another year on his contract,” said Quinn.

“There’s a chance that they might be going out but there’s nothing concrete. There have been a couple of enquiries from Loughgall and Coagh. Loughgall were enquiring about Gary Liggett and Mark Turkington while Coagh were also looking at Turk.

“They’re a great bunch of fellows and it’s not easy telling players that they aren’t part of your plans but it has to be done.”
