Second half goals ease Fifths to victory

THE Fifths entertained Cookstown IV’s on Saturday and recorded an excellent victory in a match that can be best described using the old sporting cliché of a game of two halves.

A rather listless first half ended goalless with no real cutting edge being displayed by either team.

As the second half commenced however Garvey clicked into gear and began to apply pressure to a creaking Cookstown defence.

After several missed short corner attempts the Fifths finally made the break-through from one such routine with a deceptively paced drive from Mark Murray that sneaked between the keepers legs.

Garvey began to control proceedings with some excellent one touch hockey and it wasn’t long before a well worked move was finished off by Jordan Fitzpatrick to make it 2-0 to the home side.

The chances increased and a brace of goals from Paul Bonar took the tally up to four with the final goal in particular providing the most enjoyment for the small but highly entertained crowd as a Beckenbauer-esque Richardson pass was rewarded with the finish from Bonar the move duly deserved to round off an accomplished second half display.
