Seconds are in relegation zone

LARNE II lost by eight wickets to Cliftonville II on Saturday, to reach the halfway point of the season with three wins from nine games.

Larne batted first after losing the toss and although several players made it into the teens, only Stuart Johnson was able to compile a significant innings with a hard-hitting 40.

Cliftonville skipper Stephen McChesney was the pick of the bowlers, with three wickets, and perhaps even more significantly he also effected the fortuitous run-out of the dangerous Murad Ali Shah, who was looking well set on 17.

Larne were all out for 117 off only 36 overs.

Cliftonville wasted no time in the run chase, needing fewer than 20 overs and losing only two wickets in the process. Tim Evans and Stuart Johnson were the bowlers to strike and although Cliftonville rode their luck at times, the Larne attack was never able to create any sustained pressure.

Larne now face another couple of tough home games, with CIYMS and Sainfield visiting Sandy Bay over the holiday period. A few more wins will be required in the latter half of the season to give themselves a chance of avoiding relegation.
