NEWRY 2 GARVEY SECONDS 4

GARVEY Seconds travelled to Newry on Saturday and had to work hard to come away with three points.

Garvey dominated the opening exchanges and the pressure paid off after fifteen minutes. Peter Bland made a burst from midfield and played in Phil Stirling who lifted the ball over the keeper into the roof of the net to give Garvey a well deserved lead. Garvey continued to dominate first half possession but had to settle for a one goal advantage going into the break. The second half started with Newry coming more into the game with a clear tactic of disrupting play and trying to capitalise on Garvey errors.

Despite Newry pressure, it was Garvey who extended their lead when Ian Davidson fired an unstoppable shot past the Newry keeper. The hosts responded almost immediately when the Newry forward gave Adams no chance with a well taken goal. Garvey however regained their two goal advantage when Glen Whitten scored on the reverse off a rebound. With only three minutes left on the clock, Newry gave themselves hope of salvaging a point with a goal from close range but Garvey were able to hold on and in the dying seconds won a penalty corner which was expertly dispatched by Davidson who scored his second of the day with a trademark flick.
