Seconds get back to winning ways

Bangor Thirds 2 South Antrim Seconds 3

South Seconds halted a slide of three defeats in a row to record their first win of the season at a sunny Bangor on Saturday afternoon.

South, fielding a much-changed lineup, started the game really well imposing their game on the home side creating a couple of chances through the lively Alan Hamilton.

Bangor were restricted to hitting South on the counter attack and only looked threatening when the dangerous Stranaghan was able to hold up the ball, although he was well marshaled by the solid McKechnie in the centre of defence.

South took the lead after an incisive break and run from Hamilton attempted to set up Jack Redpath, whose attempt to control the ball setup Neil Wilson who got his first goal of the season by crashing the ball into the roof of the net from close range.

After losing ‘Mr consistent’, Thomas McRoberts, to injury South were forced to reshuffle at the back. This cost them when indecision allowed a Bangor shot and back post finish in what was a sloppy goal for the away side. South did go into the break ahead, however, through a trademark Stewart Bittle short corner.

Willie Redpath (Jnr) moved into the defence at the start of the second half which allowed Man of the Match, Paul Beattie, to drive the team forward from midfield. Beattie was instrumental in South’s third goal by starting and finishing the move with a composed finish from close range as the away side turned the screw. South began to dominate from here with Neil Wilson going close alongside strike partner Nathan Donald who had a couple of chances to put the game beyond Bangor.

The home side did pull a goal back in the closing stages but were not able to muster enough to trouble the away defence who came away with a deserved, and much-needed, three points.

Thanks go to George Redpath for umpiring and Sports Dock, Antrim Street, the sponsor of the month.
