Seconds in ding-dong game at Antrim Four-um

SOUTH Seconds drew their first game of the season in a ding-dong affair at Antrim Forum on Saturday.

The locals began the game with vim and purpose and opened the scoring after Stewart Bittle scored with a trademark short corner.

They continued to press and extended their lead when Mark Bell forced an own goal with a good shot to the back post.

Antrim had several chances of their own but good goalkeeping by Alexander and a couple of last-ditch tackles meant that South went into the break two goals ahead.

South could not have wished for a better start to the second half when Campbell beat a couple of defenders to set up Alister for the easiest of finishes at the back post.

From this point South should have closed out the game and looked to secure the three points, but after Antrim pulled a goal back from a short corner they began to look nervous.

The signs were ominous when Antrim pulled another goal back after forcing an own goal with a cross into the crowded circle.

By the time Antrim drew level after yet another defensive error South looked very much second best and when Antrim went in front after a good cross and deflection, their worst fears were realised.

Throwing away a three-goal lead in such an amateur fashion handed the impetus to the home team as they looked to breathe life into their fight for Junior 2 survival.

However, with a minute to go Stewart Bittle threw an aerial ball over the top of the Antrim defence allowing Campbell to slot home for an equaliser that the away side scarcely deserved for their poor second half display.

Thanks to George Redpath for travelling to umpire.
