Seconds off to great start in Junior Cup campaign

Garvey Seconds have got off to a flying start to their Junior League Cup campaign. They have completed three games and recorded great results.

Their first game against Mossley proved to be their hardest as they could manage a 2-0 victory at The Glade.

Two goals from Ian Davidson sealed the points while their second match against Cookstown turned out to be a massive 14-1 win.

The Garvey team recorded three separate hat-tricks, Matthew Nelson, Andrew O’Hare and Greg Thompson all hitting the net on three occasions. They were backed up by skipper Phil Stirling with two strikes and William Carey, Jacob Herman and Scott McCabe who all added a goal apiece to complete the rout.

Their third game also proved to a goal feast with an 8-2 over Bangor away. This time Andrew O’Hare led the way with three fine goals supported by Phil Stirling and Daniel Nelson with two apiece and Greg Thompson with one.

These three successive wins put the Seconds in a semi-final position in the Junior League Cup. Captain, Phil Stirling will be hoping for a place in the final to make amends for their defeat at that stage last season.
