Seconds remain on Junior summit

Coleraine Twos travelled for a late start to Banbridge Fours on Saturday afternoon looking to continue an impressive run of results.

The game started as a cagey affair with both teams seeming nervous and sloppy in possession. The Coleraine girls settled quicker and began playing some nice interchange hockey.

Midfield duo Emma Jamison and Becky Lockhart were now dominating the play and spreading play balls to Dornan and Todd with ease. The pressure paid off when Coleraine won a penalty corner midway through the half. With the first phase breaking down, Ursula Harper was on hand at the edge of the circle and a clinical first touch and a superb strike found the bottom corner to give the away side the lead.

Banbridge were playing through the middle and Player of the Match Ciara Richmond had great success as she broke down any attacks and set Coleraine back on the front foot.

Great play inside the ‘23’ from Lockhart and Todd found Dornan inside the circle and a ferocious first-time strike rifled the net to give the travelling team a 2-0 lead.

Moments before the break they were unlucky not to increase that lead as Hannah McAdam, coming back from a hand injury, finished off a superb attack with a strike to the top corner, only for the home umpire to wrongly rule against for an infringement.

The second half saw Coleraine continue to dominate and great wide play from Anna Jinks and Ruth Adams was giving the away side a great foundation for attack.

Sasha Richardson and Lockhart were linking well with Todd and as a result, Todd scored Coleraine’s third with a well finished touch from close range.

Eilie Richmond and Vicky Dawson were proving a real handful with their constant energy and pressing as Coleraine continued to probe.

Zoe Campbell’s pinpoint cross was met by McAdam only for the keeper to save, but the rebound fell to Todd, who again made no mistake from close range to cap a brilliant 4-0 victory.

The result ensures Coleraine remain clear at the top of Junior 6 ahead of an away trip to Dungannon.
