Seconds see off understrength Inst

BANBRIDGE travelled to Shaw’s Bridge on Saturday to take on an unbeaten Instonians side without Timothy Watt and Thomas Sturgeon who were both unwell.

The seconds were bolstered with the return of Diarmid Reay who had been out injured for over a season and slotted straight into the central midfield role with McCracken on the left and Dickson on the right.

Bann started brightly and controlled the game from the outset pushing Inst back into their 25.

McKee and McAnulty were linking up well up front and created several opportunities however were unable to open the scoring.

Bann won their first short corner half way during the first half but the Inst keeper made a great save from a McCandless drag flick.

Inst were starting to find their stride and opened the scoring when the ball was worked well into the Bann circle from a long corner and the Inst defender finished well on his reverse.

Bann didn’t panic and managed to control the remainder of the half with several more circle penetrations but lacking the crucial final touch.

Bann started brightly in the second half and from their second short corner levelled the scores as McCandless powered a drag flick into the top left hand corner.

They continued to exert pressure on Inst and a great attacking move down the left hand side found young McKee who beat two defenders down the baseline before pulling the ball back for McAnulty to slot past the Inst keeper.

The game began to open up and from an Inst long corner move the ball was fired into the circle and Anderson deflected the ball off Mooney’s pads to concede an own goal.

Another fine attack from Bann saw them regain their lead and it was the same combination of McKee and McAnulty that tore the Inst defence apart with the later giving Bann the lead with eight minutes left in the game.

Inst pushed forward looking for the equaliser but Bann managed to hold out to secure full points and continue their 100% record. Bann travel to next week to take on newly promoted Newry Seconds.
