Seconds win to set up Junior Cup semi-final clash with Cookstown

BANBRIDGE Seconds travelled to Lough Moss to take on Annadale in the quarter final of the Junior Cup with the two sides having met in the semi finals of the same competition the previous year.

The game started off at a cautious pace with Annadale setting up a structured press. Banbridge held onto the ball well at the back and managed to work the ball forward through the hard work of McCandless and Jess in the centre of midfield.

Woods and Doyle started to get hold of the ball upfront and a good run from Woods lead to the first short corner being awarded to Banbridge which Anderson stepped up to fire into the bottom right hand corner of the Annadale goal.

Annadale stepped up their press in the second half and had a great deal of possession but couldn’t find a way through the Banbridge resolute defence. Annadale did manage to win a short corner but Woods managed to block the initial shot with his knee. The experienced MacAnulty came on to replace the injured Woods and started to link up well with Doyle upfront. Doyle was full of running and after working his way into the circle managed to win a further short corner. Anderson’s initial flick was blocked by the Annadale keeper but he followed up to score from the rebound.

Banbridge were now beginning to regain some control in the game and were unlucky not to increase their lead further when Jess found himself in space in the circle after a tight spin but his shot was well saved by the Annadale keeper.
