LURGAN Bowling Club Senior team took their second win in a week, against newly promoted Londonderry Park.

Lurgan will be happy with this performance as they settled quickly on a heavy green to build up an eight shot lead after five ends, which they improved to a 20 shot lead by the half way mark.

However, they did not have it all their own way as Londonderry Park started the fight back and after 15 ends had clawed the deficit back to 13 shots and by the seventeenth end had narrowed the gap to only five shots.

With only four ends remaining the match was still in the balance and Lurgan rallied to halt any hope of a home team come back to increase the winning margin to nine shots, earning the bonus three points for the overall win.

Winning skips on the night were David Beattie and Eddie McCourt.

On Rink One Stephen Poots, Reece Millar, Mansel Montgomery and skip David Beattie, never let their opponents settle building an early 11-3 lead scoring six shots in the third end.

The rink showed excellent form keeping the home rink under skip J Marshall to a nine shot deficit at the three quarters distance leading 26-17.

The Lurgan four knowing that the match result was still in the balance increased their winning margin to 11 in the closing ends to win 31-20.

On Rink Two, Lurgan foursome, Bobby Boness, Billy Martin, Seamus Skelton and skip Eddie McCourt, just edged a tight opening leading 5-4 after five ends at the mid point they had build an 11-7 lead, however the Londonderry Park rink under skip Derek Matier fought back scoring six shots in the eleventh end.

At the three quarter distance Londonderry Park lead 16-15, the Lurgan rink were not going to be out fought and scored an impressive nine shots in the final quarter of the match winning four of the last five ends to gain the league point for Lurgan with a 24-19 victory.

On Rink Three for Lurgan Gareth Bunting, Pete McGrail, Alan Briggs and skip Alan Roberts, struggled for consistency but just edged the opening quarter 5-4.

The rink won four of the next five ends to lead 13-8 at the midway stage and the Londonderry Park side picked up the first points in a 24-19 victory.

On Rink Four Ivor Mitchell, David Millar, Kris Matchett and skip Harry Cosgrove fought hard from the start on a tricky end rink, which seen them trail 5-3 in the first five ends.

Skip Cosgrove inspired his team mates over the next few ends to take the lead at the halfway point 11-9, this rink always remained tight with Londonderry Park skip M Fay reducing Lurgans’ lead to one shot at the three quarter distance to 15-14.

The home team won 20-18.
