Seven champions at Phoenix

THE Phoenix Boxing Club entered seven novices in the Mid-Ulster Championships and returned with seven champions.

It was a fantastic outcome for the town club during the two weeks the championships were held in Coalisland.

The successful Phoenix boxers were: Killian Lavery, Boy 3, 48 kilos; Owen O’Neill, Boy 2, 36 kilos; Ethan Lawlor, Boy 2, 66 kilos; Shane Russell, Boy 1, 39 kilos; Glen Flannigan, Boy 4, 70 kilos; Callum Trainor, Youth 1, 54 kilos; Ryan McEvoy, Boy 3, 54 kilos.

Barry Bell and Conor Rooney, who are both Pnoenix intermediate boxers, have been selected by the Armagh-Down County Board to represent them on a select team.

Martin Toland recently passed his final exams and is now a registered amateur boxing referee with the Irish Amateur Boxing Association.

Not only can the Phoenix club boast having their first referee but as far as anyone is aware Martin is the first ever in County Armagh.
