Seven Towers centre hosts successful swimming gala event

Swim Ulster held their third Development Gala at Seven Towers Leisure Centre recently.

The centre was a hive of activity on Sunday with over 200 children from across Ulster taking part in this third Development Meet of the 2011/2012 season.

Some children took part for the first time in such an event and others gained the necessary times to move to the next stage in the competitive swimming, but it is hoped all benefitted from the experience.

Development Galas are the next step on the competition pathway for young swimmers after Club Aquasprint and PTL Galas. There are four Development meets held throughout the season to provide swimmers with the opportunity to achieve the qualifying criteria for the Ulster Qualifying Meets.

The emphasis at these events is on encouraging children to take part in an open gala situation and getting them used to procedures and rules associated with competition swimming in a relaxed and friendly situation.

This event certainly provided such, with an excellent gala in the superb settings of the Seven Towers Leisure Centre.

These galas can only take place with the help of clubs and indeed the many parents who give unselfishly of their time to carry out the numerous jobs needed to operate such an event.
