Seven up for the Firsts

LURGAN College Firsts travelled to Newcastle on Saturday to face Down High School in damp and windy conditions and won 7-0.

The squad continued their winning form, easily dominating the match from start to finish and always looking dangerous in attack, despite the absence of a number of key players.

The first goal was scored five minutes after the starting whistle and signalled the onslaught on the Down defence.

Bethany Barr and Gemma McBride were in tremendous form up front and scored two goals each while Ellen Mullen, in spite of illness, was lively enough to round several defenders to score from close range. Not to be outdone, both Natalie and Serena Barr stepped up to convert another two individual efforts.

The team once again showed their flexibility as positional changes were made after half-time which had little impact on the amount of possession the College side enjoyed. Indeed, even with only ten College players on the pitch, Down HS had no answer for the College work rate and speed of passing.
