Seventh Heaven for Bann as they maintain perfect record

In the late start at Havelock Park on Saturday, Banbridge continued their 100% start to their IHL campaign by smashing seven goals past South Dublin side Corinthins in a 7-2 victory.

Top-scorer Stevie Dowds bagged anothert two while Josh Moffett, Owen Magee, Simon Magowan and Philip Brown got on the score-sheet, Bann’s other goal scored by a Corinthians defender.

Despite the home side’s seven goals, it was a rather turgid affair punctuated with several cards for both sides.

Bann opened the brighter, enjoying lots of possession but found the visitors midfield and defence hard to breach. It took until the last minute of the first quarter before the locals took the lead care of a Stevie Dowds penalty corner.

Bann took a two goal lead early in the second quarter when Josh Moffett confidently finished a flowing move from the home team. However, on 30 minutes, Corinthian managed to get on the score-sheet when Jonathan Lewis finished confidently following a misplaced pass in the Bann defence.

The home team dominated both possession and territory after the half-time break and it was no real surprise that they extended their lead in the 48th minute through Simon Magowan. Two minutes later came the goal of the game when Owen Magee cut in from the left flank to beat several defenders in the circle before smashing the ball past the helpless visiting keeper. Bann’s attacking intent was further rewarded in the 57th minute when an incisive attack resulted in a defender inadvertently deflecting the ball into his own net.

There followed three goals in quick succession between the 65th and 68th minutes. Firstly, Bann went further ahead when Philip Brown scored from anther penalty corner before Jonathan Lewis got his side’s second, again from a misplaced pass by Bann.
