With the Strollers being the only team to inflict a league defeat on the youth this season , the Cookstown team were set on revenge.

As early as the first minute the Youth opened the scoring. A missile throw from Kelly caught the Strollers defence napping, O’Neill scissor-kicking the ball to the net.

John Scott’s telling cross into the box found O’Neill who buried a shot hard and low, giving Cunningham in goal no chance, 2-0 on five minutes.

It was one-way traffic on the Wakehurst goal, only the heroics of Cunningham keeping Cookstown at bay.

Even veteran centre half Dardis had a golden chance to score, only to fluff his chance.

Wakehurst forwards Calderwood and Quigley were contained by back four of Scott, Dardis, McElhatton and Leslie. McGarvey had a shot superbly but, with halftime approaching, Megarry was fouled in the box and Steven McElhatton coolly slammed high to the net, 3-0 at half time.

Kelly had a header that had goal written all over it but Cunningham again came out with a super save but another Kelly special found Megarry and the big man headed number four.

Wakehurst clawed one back when Quigley was upended, another penalty was given and Quigley scored.

Kelly chipped the Strollers defence and Megarry showed no mercy to make it 5-1.

Now comfortable, Cookstown introduced Keifer Scott and Larmour as Megarry fed O’Neill and he did not waste the opportunity to get his first hat-trick of the season as he casually rounded the keeper.

Scott and Larmour made light work of the defence with blistering pace but were guilty of wasting golden opportunities, as Megarry showed the youngsters how to do it when from 20 yards, finding the roof of the net to make the score 7-1 to Cookstown youth seniors.

This Saturday Cookstown travel to leaders Brantwood at Skegoneil Avenue, 2pm.

Team: G McElhatton, Leslie, Scott, S McElhatton, Dardis, D McElhatton, McKenna, O’Neill, Kelly, McGarvey, McGarry. Subs: K Scott, Larmour, McMullan, Donaghy, McMenemy.
