Shane wins yet another individual competition

THERE was no league action last week due to the Premier League darts at the Odyssey but there was still plenty of action taking place around the town.

On Thursday night the Stables held an individual competition and it was Shane Lennon who won it beating Stephen Rutherford 4-2 in the final.

Stephen had beaten Sam Frazier 4-1 in the first semi-final while Shane accounted for Mick Hendron 4-2 in the second.

On Saturday morning it was the qualifiers for the Northern Ireland Masters which took place at Clann Eireann.

And with only four places up for grabs everyone had to be at there best for a chance to play at the Emerald Roadhouse in Finaghy on March 24.

At the end of it all the four players to qualify were Terry Morrow, Dee Blaney, Sam Frazier and Shane Lennon.

Then it was straight out to Drumgor for some of the throwers for the fifth heat of the Drumgor Open.

It was Adrian Hutchinson who won it to become the fourth qualifier for the finals.

Adrian beat Paul White 4-1 in the semi-final before meeting Marty Murray in the final. He had earlier beaten Shane Lennon 4-3 and Willie Chambers 4-2 in the semi-final.

Marty raced into an early 2-0 lead with a 115 checkout and again led 3-2 before Adrian levelled the match at 3-3 to take it to a deciding leg.

With Marty opening up with a 180 the pressure was Adrian to respond and he did so in style scoring 100 , 100 , 81 , 140 and checked out 80 in three darts for a 15 dart leg to claim the win.
