Shock loss for Loughanreagh

BOVEEDY opened up the race for the North West Division One title last week after they did the double over long time leaders Loughanreagh.

The Windyhall outfit looked to be powering towards the title with a string of impressive displays, but Boveedy, who beat them in the second game of the season repeated the act last week winning by five shots.

Both sides won two rinks each, but it was the hosts who walked away with five points and cut the gap at the top to just nine points.

The first half finished all square as Stephen White had given Boveedy a three shot lead after he beat Ian Ross, but Alan Irwin levelled things up as he saw off Ronnie Catherwood by the same margin.

After the break Nigel Gamble gave his side a seven point advantage as he beat Alastair Steele, and when Edwin Irwin could only manage a two shot win against Alan Catherwood Boveedy took the points.

Reigning champions Ballinrees took advantage of Loughanreagh's slip as they picked up six points thanks to their 12-shot win over Marian. The hosts won both games in the first half as Kenny McNeill beat John Rainey by eight and Jonathon Calvin saw off Brian McAlary by seven.

Terrance McGarry reduced the arrears by nine as he beat William Calvin, but Victor Millen's six shot victory over Stephen Phillips sealed the win.

Dunluce remain third as they picked up another five points following their two shot win away to Second Kilrea. The sides went in level at the break though as Barry Kane and Margaret Johnston each won by seven shots against Ivan Smyth and Alastair McIntyre respectively.

Uel McKeeman added another six to the visitors total with a win over Nicky McCaw, and even though Alan Paul won the last rink against Danny Taggart, the four shot margin wasn't enough to deny Dunluce.

Montra's tenure in Division One could be coming to an end after they lost out to fellow strugglers Moneydig. The visitors picked up five crucial points thanks to their eight shot win at the Ropewalk.

Russell Millar picked up a point for Montra in the first half as he beat Trevor Worman by a shot, before David Wright tied things up as he saw off Jimmy O'Neill by the same margin.

After the break Peter Whittaker beat Brian McFetridge by four, but Montra's joy was shortlived as Torrence McFetridge sealed a 12-shot win over Paul Donnelly.

St Mary's surge to the Division Two title shows no sign of slowing down as they extended their lead at the top to 28 points following their six shot win over First Coleraine. John Campbell gave his side a one shot lead as he beat Robert Campbell, but First Coleraine hit back through Bryan Shaw who saw off Arthur Rainey by two.

Declan McCann replied for St Mary's after the break as he beat Colin Hutchinson by six shots, and Ronnie Milliken wrapped things up for the hosts as he beat Jim Campbell by a single shot in a low scoring rink.

Castlerock suffered a blow to their outside title hopes as they went down by 17 shots at home to Garvagh and District.

The visitors controlled the first half as Adrian White beat Jackie Hutchinson by 11 shots and David Livingston recorded a six shot win over Ronnie Steele. David Workman added another two to their total with victory over Brian Wilson before Victor Callaghan rescued a point for his side with a two shot win over Ian Reynolds.

Killowen's recent run of good continued at the Maconachie Hall as they beat New Row by 13 shots. Billy Boyce picked up nine shots after an excellent performance against Robin Humphries before the game against Joe Davis and Jonathan Elder ended up all square.

Sadie Davis Extended her side's lead with a five shot win over Joe Elkin before Tommy Moffatt edged past Sammy Connor jnr by a single shot.
