Shoot-out win for Coleraine Crues

COLERAINE Crusaders secured their place in round two of the McReynolds Cup following their penalty shoot-out win over Kilbride Swifts on Saturday.

The Crues took the lead on 16 minutes thanks to Andy McMullan. Kilbride drew level just four minutes later as Darren McAllister slotted home.

Crusaders edged back in front on 32 minutes as Steven Connor fired home.

The home side drew themselves level for the second time in the game thanks to Craig Singleton who scored just after the hour mark.

After this chances came and went but no more goals were scored in normal or extra time. So it was on to penalties the Crues scored all five of theirs and Kilbride missed early on to send the Coleraine side through.

There was bad news this week as Portglenone in their seventh season back in the league had to withdraw from the competition with only four league games left to play. Manager Michael Larkin could not get the commitment from players to travel to Brantwood on April 10 and Ballynure Old Boys on March 27 as well as Rasharkin United earlier in the season and with two more away games to play Michael was left with little or no other option.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery are extended to the Ballymoney United Reserves player Dwayne Scott who suffered a serious injury on Saturday. Dwayne is to go undergo an operation in Altnagelvin Hospital on Monday for a double fracture of his leg.
