Show jumping event this Sunday

IF you are looking for an alternative way to entertain the family for the day, why not bring them along to Derry Equestrian Club’s showjumping event this weekend - a full day event celebrating the best of showjumping talent.

The action is taking place on Sunday as part of the City of Culture 2013 programme, which is supporting a wide range of community based events and workshops throughout the year.

Organisor Caroline Quigley said that it was the ideal way for the whole family to enjoy an exciting day out in the beautiful surrounds of the Ballyarnett Country Park.

“We try to stage showjumping events through the club about six or seven times a year, and I’m very conscious that the public probably aren’t aware that they can come along and watch events for free, so we would like to invite everyone to come along to enjoy the fun,” she explained.

“The showjumping event is open to all members of Showjumping Ireland, and we would encourage anyone with a competitive interest in the sport to come along. It’s fantastic to be able to take part in the City of Culture celebrations and engage with the programme in this way.

“We have some really talented local showjumpers and always attract some great competitors from outside the city, so there will be plenty of action for the spectators to enjoy. And the beautiful surroundings of Ballyarnett Country Park is the perfect setting for a great day out.”

In recent times the city has had success with Coyle brothers Daniel and Jordan competiting well and their cousin Christian is also doing well.
