SUMMER fun is high on this year’s agenda for Coleraine Borough Council with the launch of the 2011 Seaside and Rural Multi-Sports Coaching Camps.

This hugely popular programme comprises of multi-sports opportunities which have been specially adapted for young people aged between seven and fourteen years of age.

The camps will go to small rural towns and villages across the Borough, as well as its popular seaside resorts.

Children will be able to participate in a wide selection of coaching sessions including sports; cricket, golf, soccer, athletics and beach-based activities such as volleyball, soccer and cricket.

This year’s programmes will be based in Windyhall, Castlerock, Portrush and Portstewart and for the first time, Garvagh. Each course will run for four days at each area, and will be open to both children who live in the Borough and those visiting.

The main emphasis of the programme will be to make sport fun, whilst learning new skills in a child-friendly environment and under the careful instruction of qualified coaching staff.

The beach programme will take place in Castlerock and Portrush (East Strand) from Monday 18th July, Windyhall from Monday 1st August and Garvagh (Jim Watt Sports Centre) and Portstewart (The Warren) from Monday 8th August.

Roger Downey, Sports Development Officer at Coleraine Borough Council is confident that this year’s programme will be hugely successful.

He said; “Council’s Seaside and Rural Multi-Sports Coaching Camps offer a fantastic opportunity for children to stay active over the summer months whilst enjoying the company of their friends, and in familiar surroundings.”

A place will cost £10.50, which includes a free exclusive t-shit. Parents and guardians holding a current ‘Access to Leisure’ card can register their children for £5.25 each. Those without the card can take out a Family Ticket, for three or more children from the same immediate family for £27.00.

Registration commences on Saturday 18th June at Coleraine Leisure Centre and places are limited and offered on a first come first serve basis.
