Silver goal replay for South ladies

South Antrim Ladies Seconds were involved in the shortest match in their short history and ended up with the ‘Wright’ result.

The circumstances surrounding this bizarre occurrence was a decision by Ulster Hockey to force a replay of the silver goal element of a Minor Cup tie which South had previously won on penalty strokes. This meant South having to travel to Dungannon to play a match which potentially might have lasted 5 minutes. In the event the match lasted 10 minutes with last second drama unfolding.

The brief encounter started in determined fashion. In the brief second half South showed their determination to get a result and won three penalty corners in succession, the final corner being awarded as the final whistle blew. The corner had to be taken and Catherine Faulkner’s shot was saved. Thankfully Amy Wright was in the right place to pounce on the rebound flicking the ball into the top right hand corner to ensure South Antrim gained their rightful place into the quarter finals.
