Simon confirmed as new boss at Eire Og

The U-21 football finals took place in Limerick at the weekend

The Collegeland clubman will implement pre-season training sessions this week with the Craigavon outfit and he will have the assistance of internal coaches Paddy Mallon, Ian O’Hagan and Paudie McKeever who would be familiar with all aspects of the running of teams at Pinebank.

Ogs Chairman Martin Hoey stressed the need for all players and managers at his club to back the new team boss.

He said, “We are delighted to have Simon on board as our new senior team manager. I believe that it is important that all our players and supporters give him our full support.

“The lads will begin training almost immediately and Simon is keen to move things on pretty quickly and we wish him well.”

Eire Og will be training both in doors and outdoors as the new season beckons.

The Craigavon side will be playing in a very competitive Armagh All County League Intermediate section B in 2016, along side Clan na Gael, An Port Mor, Middletown and Tullysaran amongst others and the Ogs would have a realistic chance of gaining a promotional place.

Simon McGeary, who holds a teaching post in Keady, was a former member of the Armagh Under 21 management which also included Lurgan man James Byrne who has recently been installed as St. Paul’s manager along with his former Clann Eireann team mate Tommy Coleman.

The pair were managers of Eire Og last season. Meanwhile Sarsfields chairman Declan McAlinden has informed the Mail that his club are still seeking a senior team manager for the 2016 season following the departure of Jim McAlinden and his assistant Laurence Ward.

Mickey Devlin will again be in charge at Freecrow with St. Peter’s and it is expected that Clan na Gael will be announcing a new senior manager soon.
