Simpson Pairs titles decided in darts league

The Ballymena, Harryville and District Darts League, sponsored by Mid Antrim Blinds, held its annual Simpson Pairs competitions on Friday night.

Congratulations go to Geoffrey Matthews and Davy McFall, winners in Division 1, and Ian Millar and George Barr, winners in Division 2. A very enjoyable night had in both competitions, well done to all who took part.

DIVISION ONE

A total of 23 pairs took part this year in Greenhills Bar, playing on 4 boards.

Board 1’s final saw Ryan Gault and Rodney McAleese defeat Willie McBurney and Gary Scott.

On Board 2, Geoffrey Matthews and Davy McFall defeated Brian Cathcart and Darnell McCrory in an all Drifters match.

Board 3 witnessed another all Drifters affair, with Alan Bamford and Justin Cushenan beaten by Geoff Wylie and John Elder. B

oard 4 saw an all Greenhills match, with Paddy Coyles and Jarlath McGarry defeating Shane Carlin and Pat Donnelly.

The semi-finals split the Drifters pairs up; Geoffrey Matthews and Davy McFall beat Ryan Gault and Rodney McAleese 3-1 to reach the final. The other semi-final saw John Elder and Geoff Wylie defeated in the final leg by Paddy Coyles and Jarlath McGarry 3-2.

An exciting an entertaining final followed, going down to the final leg. Paddy and Jarlath led 3-2, but experience showed when in leg 6 Davy McFall hit a 180 and leg 7 Geoffrey Matthews getting another being the difference. Congratulations to all 4 players.

DIVISION TWO

Seventeen pairs turned up for the Division 2 competition in the Buffs Club, playing on 2 boards.

Final of Board 1 saw an all Slemish Tavern match, with Ian Millar and George Barr getting the better of Davy McConaghie and Cameron Horner.

On Board 2, despite a 156 finish from Jerome Carson, he and his partner, Billy McKeown missed out narrowly on a place in the board final, going down 2-1 to Matthew Reid and Darren Purdy. The board final saw Matthew and Darren defeated by Spinning Mill’s John and Chris Greer.

The final went to the last leg again, with a 180 from George Barr helping him and Ian Millar defeat John and Chris Greer 3-2.

FIXTURES

There are no league fixtures scheduled for this Friday night, November 1, due to NI Individual Qualifiers.

A bus to the Ballylumford Club for this event will be leaving from The Coach Bar at 7pm. £5 entry fee and £5 for the bus.

LEAGUE MEETING

The next meeting of the BHDDL will be held on Monday, November 4, 8.25pm.
