Sinead wins a double with brother’s help

Alpha’s Sinead Chambers returned to the podium last weekend, capturing two out of the three titles on offer at the Munster Open.

The surprise was that the title which eluded her would have been one of her two ‘bankers’.

Sinead sailed through two rounds of the singles beating Gemma Tobin 21-10 21-15 and would have been very satisfied with her straight sets victory over the very promising Clodagh Dunne to enter the semi-finals without dropping a single set.

Her next opponent was Aisling Ryan, seeded No3/4 and Sinead was to brush her aside 21-15 21-10.

She even took the opening set 23-21 off the seeded Sara Boyle in the final.

Despite dropping the second 21-16, the decider saw the left-hander back at her best to clinch the title 21-13.

Having lifted quite a number of doubles titles with Jennie King, they would have expected to confirm their status as ladies’ doubles top seeds as they confidently eased their way through their first two rounds but Fiona and Pauline Glennon caused the upset 21-16 21-18 to knock out the favourites.

Brother Ciaran teamed up with Sinead to lift the mixed doubles as they saw off the challenge of Owen Marron and Jennie King 21-15 21-17 in the final to avenge their defeat at the end of last month in the Mount Pleasant Open.
