THERE are only 16 players remaining in the Matchplay Championship.

The third round results are as follows:

Keith Steenson beat Mark Cordner 2 up.

Paul Magee beat Stephen Wilton 1 up.

Stephen Orr beat Robert Clydesdale 2 and 1.

Ronnie Halliday beat Paul McAleavey 1 up.

Kevin Smyth beat Stuart Hunter 4 and 3.

Seamus McGrath beat Cameron Morton at the 19th.

Paul Simpson beat Andrew Quinn 2 and 1.

Jonathan Ward beat Cathal McAnarney 2 and 1.

Sherwin Curran beat Alan McVey 2 and 1.

Will Dickson beat John McDowell 1 up.

Neil Clydesdale beat Michael Cowan 2 and 1.

William Malcolmson beat Hugo Downey.

Danny O’Boyle beat Seamus McNally at the 20th.

Shane Bell beat Matthew Mallon.

Sean McGreevey beat Eamon McAnarney 4 and 2.

Mark Carson w.o. against Walter Smyth.

The line-up for the fourth round looks like this: Keith Steenson v. Paul Magee; Stephen Orr v. Ronnie Halliday; Kevin Smyth v. Seamus McGrath; Paul Simpson v. Jonathan Ward; Sherwin Curran v. Will Dickson; Neil Clydesdale v. William Malcolmson; Danny O’Boyle v. Shane Bell; Sean McGreevey v. Mark Carson. There are certainly some intriguing ties among those eight matches. I wouldn’t dare try to predict the quarter finalists.
