Garvey Sixths fully deserved their place in the semi final of the Ulster Minor Cup when they defeated Civil Service Fourths by 3 goals to 1 at Stormont last Saturday.

The Sixths began the game with pace and urgency and quickly had their opponents on the back foot but the match remained scoreless until Matt Tyson opened their account in the 25th minute and the visitors were solid enough to hold on to their 1-0 slender lead at the interval.

Garvey were still on top as the second half got under way trying to turn their better possession into shots at goal.

With Darryl Scott and Peter Watson leading the attack it was not long before they increased the lead.

The hard work was done by Watson before Jordan Todd finished off the move with a well placed shot.

Philip Johnston and Andy McNaught forced a penalty corner midway through the second half and from the resulting switch, Ryan Donaldson added Garvey’s third goal to the tally, enough to seal the game.

Civil Service grabbed a goal with 10 minutes left but Sixths keeper Jochim Novaes made sure no further slip-ups occurred.

Garvey were delighted to have found themselves in the semi final of the Minor Cup with a very good 3-1 victory.
