The Sky Blues host Glentoran, who currently occupy sixth spot, some five points ahead of United.

Ballymena assistant manager Lee Doherty is confident his side can avoid losing any further ground on the east Belfast side, who are still without a manager following the dismissal of Eddie Patterson.

It’s tight in the league,” said Doherty.

“We just need to approach each game looking for three points and see where that takes us at the end of the season.

“One of our best performances came at the Oval when we beat them 3-1.

“If we apply ourselves in the same way as we did then and against Crusaders in the Shield and if we do that we can start moving up the table.

United must decide whether to bring back veteran striker Matthew Tipton, who is elibible against the Glens before starting a two-game ban following his recenr red card against Dungannon.

“Matthew didn’t train last Thursday night because he had a groin injury which we are going to have to manage.

“He is eligible for the Glentoran game before his other two games of a suspension kick in so it might be an opportunity for him to rest it and get fully fit again,” added Doherty.

Ballymena boss Glenn Ferguson, who missed Saturday’s draw at Carrick through illness, is expected to be back in the dugout this weekend.
