Slane get back to winning ways with a five star display

Moneyslane got back into action at the weekend by thrashing Markethill Swifts 5-1 at Jubilee Park.

Manager David Johnstone chose to shake things up a bit with a change of formation and personnel positioning.

Moneyslane started very well and looked sharp in the opening exchanges. The home team took the lead when Stevie Coulter fed John Whitten and after an exchange of passes with Brian Quilty, the cross was hammered home by the skipper Gareth Bingham from 10 yards.

Shortly after, the lead was extended when a great free-kick from Mark Anderson was volleyed home at the back post by John Whitten. Markethill tred to hit back and they were unlucky when a shot rebounded off the far post and then Steven White got down well to his left to save what looked like a certain goal.

Gregg Harrison had an opportunity to score when through one-on-one but the keeper saved. Just before half time, Slane went 3-0 up when John Whitten won the ball, broke down the right and his cross was met by Mark Anderson who side footed home.

There was still time for the away team to have another good chance when the attacker lobbed Steven White but Quinn was on hand to clear the danger.

Stevie Coulter was forced off with a hamstring injury so Jonny Kernaghan made his Moneyslane debut. On 55 minutes, the home team scored again when good pressure from Brian Quilty forced a back pass, which the keeper missed and the ball entered the net with Gregg Harrison helping it over the line just in time to be awarded the goal.

If there was any doubting the scorer of the fourth then there was no dispute with the fifth when it arrived on 60 minutes. Great play between Quilty and Harrison saw the defence open and the latter slotted the ball confidently past the advancing keeper.

Credit to the away team as they never gave up and indeed responded with all out attack.

Markethill pulled a goal back when a free kick was parried by Stephen White and the rebound was fired home. Then a rash tackle from Ryan Shilliday saw the away team awarded a penalty but White saved superbly and the rebound came back off the bar and away to safety.

Then moments later a cracking long range hit was tipped onto the bar by White in what was a fantastic save.

All in all, it was a great win for Slane.
