Slane U11s earn play-off spot

MONEYSLANE U11s played last Thursday night took on Rathfriland Swift’s night in the last league game of the season.

From the start Slane were on top on what was a very sticky pitch and were unlucky not to take an early lead with Crawford, Banks, Megaw and Davis all combining and the shot was well saved from the Swifts keeper.

Slane kept on the pressure and were one up when Moorhead found Davis in the middle of the park and he took on the whole Swifts defence and with great skill and hit a shot with the outside of his left foot which left the keeper rooted to the spot and found the top corner.

They went looking for the second that their play deserved with Crawford going closest but his shot went just wide of the post

As the second half got underway Slane finally got their second with some neat play in the midfield, Megaw got the ball to her feet and she calmly placed the it though the keepers legs to go two up.

Rathfriland tried to get back into the game but Slane held firm and looked certain to score again but when a miss placed back pass found the Rathfriland forward and he beat the Slane keeper to make it 2-1 it added a bit of pressure near the end.

This result meant that the under elevens finished top of the league on equal points with Damolly to set up a play off to see who will be champions. Whatever the result this has been a successful season for the young team and all the kids should be proud of what they have achieved this year and with a play off and a cup still to play for who knows what can happen in the next few weeks

Player of the match was Ethan Banks
