Slane Under 17s see off Rosario in cup

Moneyslane U17s 2

Rosario 4

SLANE U17s entertained Rosario in the NI Boys Cup at Cheney park in Banbridge at the weekend with a large Slane support turning out to watch the future players for the Slane club.

This was a very evenly contested game of football from the first whistle.

Rosario struck the first blow on six minutes from a corner. Slane had now woke up and started to play some great football.

On 10 minutes Matthew McKnight found himself in the Rosario box and was upended - the referee gave a penalty. Up stepped Jordan Fairley who slotted it past the keeper into the bottom corner to level the game.

Slane were now the better of the two teams and were pushing forward at great pace. Ally Fairley, Aaron Megaw, Johnny Adair and Jamie Wharton were causing Rosario all sorts of problems.

It was Johnny Adair on 20 minutes who gave Slane the lead with a lovely flick over the defender and fired the ball into the top corner.

Gary Porter, Jordan Mitchell, Brian Davidson and David Henry were solid in defence. Matthew Kerr in goals was also having a good game coming out and claiming every ball.

Then on 27 minutes Slane lost a bit of composure and let Rosario back into the game.

Slane came out in the second half with a lot of determination and guts. They were putting Rosario under a lot of pressure but just couldn't get that final ball away.

Then came the sucker punch half way through the second half. The Rosario striker flicked the ball over the keeper into the net for the goal of the game.

Slane tried and tried to get back into the game but it just wouldn't happen for them. Just to rub salt into the wounds Rosario scored a fourth with the last kick of the game.

It was a great performance on the day from the Slane lads. There was a great crowd up the line to watch and thanks to everybody who came down to support the lads on the day.

Best for Slane was David Henry at left back for Slane who fired himself into some tough tackles and tracked back the whole game.

Team: Matthew Kerr, Gary Porter, Jordan Mitchell, Brian Davidson, David Henry, Ally Fairley, Aaron Megaw, Matthew McKnight, Jordan Fairley, Johnny Adair, Jamie Wharton, Robbie Little, Ryan McBurney, William Martin.
