Slanes beat Rathfriland

Moneyslane Reserves 5

Slane Reserves beat local rivals Rathfriland 5-2 in the Mid-Ulster Reserve Three clash at Ingram Park on Saturday.

Kyle Scott netted a brace and it was he who opened the scoring as he showed strength to shrug of the defender and lob over the keeper.

On the half hour mark, Gareth Wilson was played in by the hard-working Richie Adamson and he placed it past the keeper to double Slane’s advantage.

Five minutes later the Town slipped up at back and Kyle Scott capitalized to get his second goal and make it 3-0.

Rathfriland’s Maginn then netted a quick-fire double to make it 3-2 at the break but on the hour Jordan Fairley raced onto McCullough’s long kick and slotted it in off post to restore a two goal advantage.

Wilson and Bain then played a one-two up the right. Wilson broke and squared the ball across the six-yard box and Bain nipped in front of Jackson to convert past the stranded keeper and make the game safe.

The same pair came close to making it an even more convincing scoreline but their shots flew just the wrong side of the woodwork.
