Slick Blues down Ports

The Ports posed a massive threat as they were the form team going into the clash, but the Blues were in no mood to let their title bid slip up and they produced a masterful display which delighted the fans and boss David Jeffrey.

"This was a formidable test because Portadown were on a great run, but we produced a marvellous performance," said Jeffrey.

"It is a big win, but we will not be getting carried away. We have had our wings clipped before so there will be no complacency."

Portadown created the first effort on goal when Jordan Baker brought a fine save out of Alan Blayney on 15 minutes. Eventual match hero Curtis Allen set his sights on goal with an effort gathered by Miskelly.

Linfield slowly got on top and took the lead on 29 minutes when Jamie Mulgrew played in Allen and he ran clear to fire past Miskelly. Soon after Robert Garret should have hit the target when in a good position but he failed to hit the target.

However after the next attack the home fans were celebrating again after Mulgrew and Billy Joe Burns combined to set up Philip Lowry and he drilled a crisp shot into the net.

Linfield continued to press but had to settle for just the two goal lead at the break.

The second half was only minutes old when the points were sealed. Allen played the ball though to McAllister who picked out Burns and he flicked the ball wide of the advancing Miskelly.

There was no respite for the Ports as McAllister, Tomelty and Allen all threatened to add to the tally.

It became 4-0 on 70 minutes thanks to a neat pass from Tomelty found Allen and he made no mistake. Tne minutes from the end the Blues added number five, a simple finish required from Tomelty to cap a brilliant performance from the league leaders.
