The 17-handicapper produced a total of 43 stableford points from his round to win Captain Noel Gourley’s prize by a margin of three points.

Andrew got off to a great start with a birdie at the opening hole which he followed with a par as he had seven points on his card after the opening two holes.

The next four holes accounted for five dropped shots followed by birdie, bogey, birdie as he reached the turn with a total of 23 points.

The back nine opened with two bogeys and a double bogey but the final six holes were three pars and three bogeys as he added a further 20 points to his tally.

Second prize went to Derek Smyth who, off a handicap of 14, returned 40 points.

A front nine score of five pars, bogeys at the third and fourth, a double bogey on the fifth plus a birdie on the sixth, yielded 22 points.

Derek’s back nine saw him record two pars, four bogeys, a double bogey on the 14th and a birdie on the par three 16th but a triple bogey seven on the 13th was a setback as it resulted in no points, meaning he had to settle for 18 points on the nine holes.

However, he still had a point to spare over third-placed Ronnie Kernohan (23) who managed 39 points.

His round didn’t start promisingly with a ‘ding’ at the opening hole, while his last three holes yielded only one point each but it was on the holes inbetween that Ronnie did most of his good work.

He scored four points on each of the third, 11th and 15th holes but against that he had seven double bogeys. He scored 20 points on the way out and 19 on the back nine.

The fourth prize went to Chris Ramsey (13) with 38 points, 19 of which came on each nine holes but he was left to reflect on a non-score on the final hole which left him further down the prize list than he might have been.

In total he had eight pars, six bogeys plus double bogeys on the fifth and 16th and he managed to retrieve a shot with a birdie on the 13th.

Fifth nett was Robert McMullan (22) with a total of 37 points, and on a abetter second nine total from David Small.

McMullan had an indifferent first nine holes where he scored a mere 16 points and that included a non-score on the par five third hole plus a triple bogey on the fifth.

The second nine was much better with the opening three holes producing three pars which equated to 10 points.

Robert completed the round with double bogeys on the 13th, 15th and 17th plus two bogeys and a rewarding par on the final hole for 21 points for the nine holes.

David Small won the sixth nett prize, also with 37 points, having scored 20 of them on the second nine holes.

Nine-handicapper Small opened his round with a birdie, only to drop a shot on the second and two further shots went on the third and he then completed the nine holes with 17 points.

The second nine commenced with a non-score but he went on to complete his round with four pars, two bogeys and he birdied the 16th and 18th for 20 points on the way home.

Adam Brady (5) topped the best gross category when he played the course in 73 shots.

In total Adam scored nine pars, seven dropped shots plus birdies on the 10th and 18th to win with a better second nine hole total by two shots from Sean McGarry.

Sean’s round was made up of nine pars, seven bogeys plus birdies on the third and seventh.

The veterans’ prize was won by Brian Craig (25) with a total of 37 points, while the past Captains’ prize was won by immediate past Captain Henry Eagleson (9) who scored 37 points, 19 of them coming from the second nine holes.

The Council prizewinner was Paul Creevy (18) with a total of 35 points and that included a ‘ding’ on the sixth.

The nearest to the pin in two shots at the 18th hole went to Adam Brady while the longest drive at the same hole came from Adam Barr, who also won the putting competition with a total of seven under.

The visitors’ prize was won by Ian Henry with a total of 30 points.

The Captain’s prize for the ladies, who had played earlier in the week, resulted in the overall winner being Eileen Timoney with 38 points, while the gross prize was won by Jacqui Brown with 19 gross points.

In section A, Evelyn Allen was tops with a total of 32 points and Section B saw Kerry Rose McElroy came out best with a total of 36 points while Section C resulted in Siobhan Shannon having the best return of 34 points.

All in all, everyone had a fine day with the weather being good and the course was in excellent condition for both the ladies’ event during the week and the men’s competition on the Saturday.
