SLIDESHOW: Boxing Day sport at Ballymena Academy

Ballymena Academy played host to the annual rugby and hockey matches involving past and current pupils on Boxing Day morning.

The games were played in typically competitive but frinedly spirit and were enjoyed by everyone involved.

In the hockey game, the current First XI defeated the immediate past pupils’ XI by seven goals to five in a high-scoring encounter!

The current squad were 5-0 up at half-time but after the break the past pupils made come backs of all comeback to level the game only for the school girls to edge the win by scoring two more goals.

School First XI captain Emma Kernohan was presented with the OPA Cup by president of the association, Peter Johnston.

The game between the under-30 XI and the over-30 XI was tightly contested, ending in a 1-1 draw.

Captains Leanne Penney and Catherine Doherty shared the OPA silver salver.

In the rugby, the under-23 XV beat the over-23 XV by 34 points to 17.
