He led the race from gun to tape, holding off three different challengers to win the title for the third time.

Ballymena Runners continued their dominance of the Credit Union-sponsored event, supplying the first four finishers.

Brennan was pushed by local athlete Conor Reid to the top of the first climb, with team-mate Emmett McAllister in third place, but Jonathan McCloy moved into second on the descent into the village.

The steep ascent of Cargan Rock told its tale as Brennan turned on the presure with a fast descent into the finish.

McAllister proved too strong a finisher for Conor Reid to pip the local runner by two seconds, with McCloy taking fourth place.

Kathryn Grant had little difficulty in winning the ladies’ title, while promising youngster COnor McAllister was best of the juniors in eighth place overall.
