SLIDESHOW: Randalstown Rugby Club fight night a huge success

The moment when Michael "Hail-storm" Hamilton and James "The Punisher" Pedlow knocked each other out resulting in a draw at Randalstown RFC boxing night. INAT 35-918H

The months of preparation were well worth it as the event lived up to all expectations.

The boxers performed to a capacity crowd and the supporters certainly raised the roof during the bouts as they cheered on their favourites.

Probably the most hyped fight of the night was between club captain Neil Foster and former member David Jamieson. In the end Foster was declared the winner by a narrow margin.

The only knockout of the evening came from the glove of Darryl McGarry and thankfully his opponent suffered no ill effects afterwards.

The final bout of the night was the heavyweight bout between Chris Allen and Ballymena’s Adie Kirkpatrick. Again it was a tight affair but Allen just done enough to ensure Randalstown’s clean sweep.

There are very many thanks due, most critically to all the opposition without whom the night would not have been possible. The effort put in ensured that there were no real losers and hopefully everyone enjoyed the evening.

To Toome Amateur Boxing Club for supplying expertise in the form of judges and referees as the fights were very close to call for the untrained eye.

Many other volunteers put in an enormous amount of work to ensure the night was a success and they were hopefully duly rewarded to see their efforts so well received.

The superior technique exhibited by Graeme Hume saw him to pick up the award for the best fighter on the night and RRFC were delighted to welcome former Commonwealth Games gold Medallist & current Irish & WBC International Middleweight Champion, Eamonn ‘King Kane’ O’Kane’, making a guest appearance to present the medals and awards.

The IBF number 10 ranked Middleweights fight will be on the undercard of the Frampton vs Martinez (Titanic Showdown) on Saturday 6th of September. Naturally all at RRFC wish him well in this endeavour and no doubt he has picked up some extra fans along the way.
