SLIDESHOW: Wady lands two tries as Carrick go joint-top

Carrick’s 1st XV gained a winning bonus point when they beat Lisburn 38-11 on Saturday.

This victory moves them joint-top of Qualifying 2, alongside Academy and Omagh.

Carrick set the tone with five minutes on the clock when Jason Wady raced into the corner for his first try of the game. From a difficult angle, Luke Whittal added the conversion points.

Lisburn then got themselves into the game with a penalty on eight minutes but Carrick extended their lead five minutes later with an unconverted try from Curtis Rea.

The home side reduced the deficit with a second penalty, but just before the break they allowed Wady to crash over again after strong carries by Matt Hadden and Robbie Williams. Whittal added the extras to give the visitors a 19-6 half-time lead.

The Reds signalled their intent early in the second session when an uncoverted score from Neil Hastings was follwed by a Ross Crymble try which was kicked by Whittal.

The home side enjoyed their best period of the match at the end of the third quarter and into the fourth when they played much of the game in and around the Carrick 22.

The visitors’ case wasn’t helped much, when, for three minutes, they had two men in the sin-bin.

Lisburn broke Carrick’s defensive resolve when, following a scrum, they broke through in midfield for an unconverted score.

Carrick hit back straight from the kick-off when after several phases skipper Johnny Cullen forced his way over for a deserved try. Luke Whittal put over the conversion to give Carrick a 38-11 lead.

Carrick’s next game comes on November 29 when they welcome Academy to Tom Simms Memorial Park.
