Smiths’ success in Roscrea race

Nine members of Cookstown Social Homing Pigeon Society sent 216 birds to Roscrea for their fourth young bird race.

The birds were liberated at 9am on Saturday into a light south-westerly wind.

The winning pigeon was tmied into the Perry-Gonigan lofts of G. and S. Smith, flying two hours and sixteen minutes.

For this it was a 125 mile trip to most lofts.

In the Castledawson Society, the Magherafelt loft of Martin McErlean took the top two places in this race. In third place was the Lynn & Leacock loft with Sam Watson’s Klondike lofts taking fourth and fifth place.

The castledawson loft of the Savage Brothers came in sixth spot.
