Smyth tops in Club Sweep at Raceview

THE SATURDAY Sweep on the eighth resulted in three returns of thirty three points but the last four hole split saw the top sport being taken by Wesley Smyth (12) from Gerard McCann (12) and third place was taken by Maurice Harkin (13).

Smyth commenced his round with four pars plus a dropped shot on the second which was equal to fourteen points. He then reached the tenth tee with three bogeys plus a par on the ninth which gave him twenty two points for the first nine holes.

The par three tenth was good to him as he had a birdie which was worth four points on its own. The final three holes were two bogeys plus a par on the thirteenth which added eleven points giving him a total of thirty three.

Second placed McCann scored four pars plus four bogeys and a birdie on the third gave him twenty three for the nine to which he added another ten points from a finish of par, bogey, double bogey, birdie.

Harkin had a somewhat mixed first nine where he scored four pars, three bogeys, a double bogey on the second and a valuable birdie on the par five ninth. The final four holes resulted in two pars, a bogey on the eleventh and a double bogey on the twelfth for his total of thirty three points. Category

One resulted in a win for Gerard Rafferty (6) who scored twenty nine points with nineteen coming from the first nine holes where was three over gross. That nine holes contained five pars, two bogeys, a double bogey on the fifth plus a birdie on the seventh. The last four holes produced two pars, one bogey plus a birdie on the final hole.

Ian Lecky (9) took the category two prize with a score of thirty two points which came via eight pars, four bogeys plus a birdie on the par five ninth which was worth four points on its own. Category three resulted in Campbell Wade (10) being a top dog also with a total of thirty two points the result of ten pars, two bogeys and a double bogey, six on the par four eighth.

The final category winner was Allen McCullough (18) again with a total of thirty two points. Allen scored four pars, seven single bogeys, a double bogey on the twelfth and a triple bogey on the par four sixth yet it was worth one point.

The entry on the day was one hundred which was slightly down owing to a group who were on an outing to Portrush.
