SNOOKER: Blues are summit special

Linfield remain top of the Larne and District Snooker League with a slender three-point advantage but they have played more games than the teams around them.

The Blues preserved their place at the summit with a 3-2 away win at Ballyclare Golf Club with J McKay, Billy Parke and Gary Rutherford each winning frames. The golfers’ response came courtesy of Trevor Mairs (34) and Neil McKelvey (41).

Latharna are now up to second place after a fine 5-0 home win against Comrades ‘A’. R Weir, G McGregor, Jim Jackson (27), Gavin Carmichael and Billy Miller, with a fine 63 break, all won to put the Point Street men in a healthy position for the run-in.

St Comgall’s sit third, having won one less game than Latharna. The Saints beat Carrick GC ‘B’ 4-1 with Bertie Pill, D. McDonagh, A. McCorry and Joe Gribben all taking their frames.

Greenbank ‘A’ sit in fourth spot on 58 points after losing 3-2 at Carrick GC ‘A’. Boydie Hawkins and Davy Douglas won for Carrick while M. Goudie (47), Gavin Baker (48) and Ricky Bradley made sure of victory for the home side.

St John’s have hit a bit of form lately and that continued with a 5-0 away victory at Greenbank ‘B’. A. Reid, D. Todd, A. Robertson, G. Hunter (35) and A. McKee all got on the scoresheet.

Elsewhere, The Point emerged as 3-2 winners away at Comrades ‘B’.

Details regarding the Dr Scott Cup and Billy Phillips competitions run by Greenbank, are expected to be released this week.
