SNOOKER: Greenbank win battle of the top two

Larne and District Snooker League: It was a top-of-the-table clash in Carrick last week with Greenbank ‘A’ seeing off Ballyclare Golf Club in a 3-2 win.

The golfers were first out of the traps with Neil McKelvey getting the ball rolling with the first frame. Darren Agnew won the second with the the help of a fantastic 112 break. But Greenbank made the most of their home advantage and won the next three frames in a row, with successes for Davy Douglas, Robert Kinnon and Wayne Harper.

Linfield moved level with Ballyclare ‘A’ after defeating Latharna 3-2.

Carrick Golf Club ‘A’ moved ahead of St Comgall’s thanks to a 5-0 win over Greenbank ‘B’. D. Newell, Gavin Baker (48), Richard Bradley, Marty Goudie (34, 31) and Ken Knocker all recorded wins for the golfers.

The Saints occupy sixth spot after losing 3-2 against The Point. D. McDonagh and Shaun McAlister won for the Saints. The Point’s Roy Logan, Steven Girvan and Gary Neill took their frames.

Ballylumford have now moved up to 40 points - nine off the leaders - after a fine 4-1 away win over St John’s. Paul Wylie, Jim Magill, D. McNeill and Davy Irwin all won with Adrian McKee providing the home side’s response.

Comrades ‘B’ came out on top in the derby with their ‘A’ team. Declan McLean, Noel Vennard and Stevie Crymble came good for the ‘B’ team, while Ronnie West and John Barrons recording wins for the ‘A’ team.
