SNOOKER: Latharna win title by a point

Latharna won one of the closest Larne and District title races for years, edging the championship by a single point over Carrick’s Greenbank ‘A’.

Latharna sealed their success with a 3-2 win over Ballyclare Golf Club when Billy Millar, Raymond Weir and Gavin Carmichael each winning their frames.

Greenbank ‘A’ kept the pressure on until the end with a 4-1 win against Comrades ‘A’. D. Jonston, Wayne Harper, R. Kinnon and Davy Douglas claimed the frames for the Carrick side.

Latharna won 74 frames with Greenbank 73, Carrick Golf Club 72, St Comgall’s 71 and Linfield 70 to leave it a very close contest, despite the handicap system.

The Scott Cup is now down to the semi-final stages. The Latharna club was set to host Ballyclare Golf Club against Carrick Golf Club on Wednesday (May 1). On the other side of the draw, Latharna will take on Greenbank ‘A’ in St Comgall’s.

Billy Phillips Shield: St Comgall’s will meet Carrick Golf Club ‘A’ in the final of The Billy Phillips Shield. This is the new 10 red competition to be held in Greenbank Club with each competitor’s individual handicap coming into play. The final will be held in Greenbank on Tuesday, May 7 at 7.30pm.
