Snooker league reaches its halfway stage

The Ballymena and District Snooker League reached the halfway mark last week.

In Division 1 Minnesota Strikers remain in top spot after a 2-2 draw in Ballymena with Potters. Robin Shirley and Bill McKane both won for Minnesota.

Damian Reid was drawn to play twice for the Potters team and he played very well in defeating Hugh Larkin and Trevor Alexander to salvage a draw for the Coleraine men.

Minnesota Rockets continued their good run of form with a 3-1 success at Potters Hotshots. Rockets’ two new players Billy Millar and Johnny Jackson along with team captain Rodney McFall were the winners for Minnesota with Willie Eakin replying for the Hotshots.

Reigning champions Minnesota B got their defence on the league title back on track after a couple of recent blips with a 3-1 success against Dunloy United in the Minnesota club.

Benny O’Kane won for the visitors but Gary Clarke Davy Swann and Rory Kinney ensured the champions kept in touch with teams above them in the league table.

In Division 2 Parochial Lions edged ahead at the top of the table with a hard fought 3-1 win over 147 Antrim. Richard Russell, Gregory Bryans and Jimmy Millar all won final frame deciders with Jason Smyth securing the Antrim sides lone point.

Seagulls Potters are now second after a major battle against Allstars in Coleraine. All four games went to a deciding frame with Sam Cobbin and Chris Boreland gaining the points for Potters. Captain Sammy Walker and Shaw Williamson were the successful players for the Allstars.

Potters Elite, after a slow start, are now very much in contention after a 4-0 win over Parochial Hawks.

Adrian Boreland, Lee Hull, Curtis Boreland and Peter Martin all won but with only 3 points separating the top 4 teams there is still plenty to play for in Division 2 this season.
