SNOOKER: Victory puts golf club team top of league

Carrick Golf Club ‘A’ and Greenbank ‘A’ now sit at the top of the Larne and District Snooker league with 24 points and six wins each after playing each other in midweek.

The golfers came out top in a tight match, winning 3-2. D Wright, G Armstrong and G Baker, with a break of 40, all won for the home team. Wayne Harper and Michael Kane responded for the Sunnylands side.

St John’s also sit on 24 points with five wins but lost out 3-2 at home against Glenn Gibney’s Carrick Golf Club ‘B’. Alex Robertson, with a 25, and A. McKee both won for the hosts. Gibney, Tommy Bond and Mike Jones pocketed frames for the North Road team.

Latharna have moved steadily up the table to fourth on 22 points thanks to a 4-0 win over Q-Club A. Raymond Weir, G McGregor, Jim Jackson, with breaks of 45 and 27, and team captain Ken McKord all won for the Point Street men. Neil McFaul was also in fine form to win for the Snooker Hall side, with breaks of 21 and 23.

Ballylumford enjoyed a 3-2 success against Ballyclare Old Boys, while Ballyclare ‘B’ beat Q-Club B 4-1.

The Point were 5-0 winners away at the Blues Club, and Greenbank had a narrow 3-2 home vitory over St Comgall’s.
