Social reach cup quarters

HILLSBOROUGH Social have reached the quarter finals of the Lisburn Zone Charity Cup by beating Soldierstown in the final game of Group 4.

One of the “big boys’’ had to go in this group and Soldierstown will now play in the quarter finals of the Rosebowl.

The competition is sponsored by Denis Wilson Tools, Glenavy and Easi-Park, Belfast International Airport. The chosen charities are the Corrymeela Community and Parkinson UK, Lisburn Branch.

Group 1 is still undecided with Rock and St Clare’s to play matches but Loughaghery would appear to be the likely winners.

Killaney go into the Cup and Sloan Street the Rosebowl from Group 2 and Group 3 will be decided after Hilden play St Mark’s.

Ballinderry have reached th Cup quarter finals after a big win over Seymour Hill in Group 5. The score was 56-21.

Nathan Kerr lifted a single at the first end but a three and a four helped Paul Reid to a 10-1 lead at the sixth and he won by seven shots.

A second end single was all R. Scales got and Raymond Stubbs included two fives and two threes in a 24 shots win.

Glen Scales led 7-5 at the seventh and after Keith Morrison lifted a single Seymour Hill got their only win by three shots.

Two threes enabled Eddie Marsden to lead 10-1 at the sixth and after Andrew Murdock added four, two Ballinderry finished with a three to win by seven shots.

Derriaghy will take top spot in Group 6 if they beat Derryvolgie, while St Columba’s cane reach the quarter finals of the Rosebowl.

Pond Park have reached the Cup from Group 7 and in Group 8 Lambeg Parish go forward to the Cup knock-out stages with Aghagallon continuing in the Shield. This is assuming Royal British Legion have dropped out, though competition secretary, John Mackey, has not received any official confirmation.
