Solid display but defeat for Thirds

THE Banbridge side were looking to restore some pride following last weeks horrendous performance and get back on the promotion charge.

From the outset they looked like a team doing just that. With no fewer than five Fourth XI players called up Bann looked as strong as ever.

The opening goal came from a long corner where Sam Farson picked out Ben Knox in a room of space who crashed it into the “D”. Dave Smyth rounded the keeper and coolly slotted the ball into the net.

However this lead did not last long when two Banbridge players were contentiously given green cards in the space of five minutes and the home side made their extra numbers count with a back post finish.

What Bann needed was the in form Gary Dean to come on and add to his ever growing collection of goal this season. His first of the day came from a determined run where he was fouled numerous times but continued to plough on and finish low into corner of the net.

In the second half, Bann continued to pile the pressure on and some fine two touch hockey up the pitch allowed Woods to find Gary Dean in the “D” who roofed it past the onrushing keeper.

The away side grew in confidence and the fourth goal and Gary Dean’s third came soon after.

Similar to his first he charged past the defence and slotted it past the keeper. 4-1 up and no way back for the home team but Bingham was needed to make a few great saves to keep the lead intact but two late consolation goals wasn’t a fair resemblance of the game for Banbridge who had defended in numbers and attacked as a team. A solid performance and many positives to build on as promotion may beckon
